Intern Success Story!
by Eliana Araujo at El Bichito
“A lot of times in developing countries the women cook over an open fire either in their home or right next to their home. So, it would be like cooking over a camp fire for all your meals every day. Peru rural areas are no exception and this can cause seriousrespiratory problems as well as vision problems for the entire family, especially for those people having to cook with smoke in their face every day. I noticed this issue with smoke at Alida´s house and other kids in the Puylucana community. So, not only is this a health concern for Alida and her siblings, but for everyone that suffers from the effects of second-hand smoke.
Many NGO help with adobe stove projects – the problem is they can take a very long time to make and are very expensive. I wanted to try a simpler model that I researched known as a rocket stove. The design is very simple. It takes about 40 minutes to put together, significantly reduces the amount of smoke produced and only costs about $11 to make. The rocket stove also has a way of concentrating the heat with little fuel/kindling which allows the person to cook faster with less fuel.
I saw the smoke problem at Alida´s house as a perfect opportunity to make the stove. It came off as a huge success, I hope in the future this kind of stove will be expand in Puylucana community helping other kids of El Bichito kids with rocket stove project!

Yerlis Needs
You!
Yerlis Moreno (10), is in the first grade, and loves coloring. She is the oldest of three siblings that come to Semillas de Amor. She lives in Nueva Colombia and her family is incredibly poor.
Yerlis has a prominent skin infection on her arms and legs. It has spread considerably, and due to scratching to relieve the itching and discomfort it’s started to bleed and scar. Her mom has
expressed worry about it but says they don’t have enough money to cover treatment, let alone go to the doctor. It seems to be strictly topical, and could probably be remedied fairly easily if a physician could look at it and recommend treatment.
If you would like to sponsor Yerlis, please contact: sponsorship@eagle-condor.org or call for more information: 801-263-2000. 100% of your sponsorship will go to the children with projects just like this one!

My Micro-Loan Success Story
by
Miguel Avila
“I’m very happy with the help provided (loan) which allowed me to purchase the submersible pump tube which allows me to rent to the mining company. I’m generating income which is helping me support my family. I predict within 12 months I will be able to purchase another similar pump which will enable me to pay my loan faster and generate more revenue.”

Heartbeats
“When people donate their time, they are giving of their valuable heartbeats.”
Eagle Condor would like to thank Zac Gardner, of St. George, Utah, for putting together dental hygiene kits for his Eagle Scout project to help children in Peru. With help from his troop, he donated 400 kits!
ECH thanks Adam Dorius for the following comments:
“I was an intern, stationed in Chiclayo, in the summer of 2008. I think of Eagle Condor as a starting point to my academic career and actual career. I graduated in International Studies and am now working in Washington DC with a NGO. So thank you very much for my experience in Peru as a Microfinance intern.”
Thank you BBB! We are proud to announce our updated BBB A+ rating! Check it out here!
Thanks yet again to our friend Dave Clark who volunteers his amazing talents to help us with our graphic designs. He is not only fantastically good, he is also very patient! Thanks Dave!
