New Interns, New Stories
Isreal
“Israel is eight and is the cutest! He LOVES drawing and painting… and he is really good at it! He has one brother and five sisters. He says he likes going to El Bichito because of the warmth given there. Although kind of shy when you first meet him, he always has a smile for you, and the best part is, he is always willing to help with whatever you are doing.

Expeditions – Before and After
Huattabefore

Imagine this as your children’s school bathroom. (No covering on the back). Building an elementary school bathroom in Huatta was just one of our many expedition projects last summer.  It is amazing what difference 1 expedition can make! Now the school children of Huatta enjoy a sanitary facility with sinks and separate sides for boys and girls:

Before And After MicroLoans!
Cesar Arbanil
Before – Cesar was traveling out of Chiclayo each day for work and not making enough cover the monthly expenses to provide for his family.  Cesar learned of ECH and sought training. Cesar’s initial loan was $350 which allowed the family to buy their first oven.

AfterCésar and his wife Carmen now own an empanada business. The days are long and each day they bake about 500 empanadas. They are happy they have a successful business. “We have enough for food, and it is easier to pay the school fees for my daughter. Now we have daily income. Before, we often fell short and did not have money for our basic expenses until the end of the month when my husband was paid. Now, we even have a little put aside in case of an emergency.”

Carmen is energetically planning for the future. “We are hoping to expand our products soon, we are going to grow!” she said. “I love work, I love our business.”

Sponsorships – Long Term Change
Sometimes before and after changes are difficult to readily notice when working with long term development such as education, health and personal skills. On occasion, however, like with Maria Alida Mantilla, it’s easy!  Maria is 14, and has a personality that is both bashful and mischievous.Alida is 15, in charge of her 5 younger siblings and loves school. One day, she wants to go to the university of Cajamarca and become a lawyer.

Interns noticed the growth in her eye and took upon the task of making sure she had the needed operation for long term vision.
